When God's Timing Unfolds
This year has brought unexpected surprises. I have spent moments on the beach, in tears of frustration and discouragement, asking the Lord for direction and guidance. Then, months later, I skipped and danced on shoreline, rejoicing at God’s goodness and grace. Poured out time and time again. In His time. Not mine. Several years ago, Nic and I tossed around the idea of moving to coastal Georgia. He looked for possible job opportunities and nothing came up. So, we decided it

Cultivating Perspective: Lessons from Spring Gardening
Happy First Day of Spring! 🌷 We've been busy prepping our gardens for a summer of veggies. 🥬 🥕 🌽 🍅 Not one to let my hubby have all the fun, I took over the tiller before placing our second raised bed. As I was tearing up the ground and digging the tines into the earth to remove the weeds, I began to ask the Lord to take out any weeds trying to take root in my heart. Weeds of discouragement. It’s tough waiting month after month to hear back from editors at publishing

Finding Hope Amidst Lies: Cannas Can Comeback, So Can You
My canna lily is making its annual comeback after the cold winter temps. I say, cold, but I'm in Charleston, so cold here is around 30 degrees. It reminds me of the Scripture verse, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). I'm in a season of shedding some old lies about myself and learning to replace them with what the Lord says about me. Like the old, withered leaves of this plant, the

Don't Get Your Tinsel in a Tangle
Is this, as the song suggests, truly the most wonderful time of the year? For many it is stressful. Emotional. Exhausting. Hurried. Harried. Time runs short and so do tempers. The frustration of finding the perfect gift, then battling the traffic to buy it wears on every exposed nerve. As the year winds down, some reflect back and wonder what, if anything was accomplished over the last 12 months. The hope, peace, joy, and love of Advent are lost in the busyness of consumerism

A Thrill of Hope
I recently learned that "hope" is mentioned 137 times in the Bible. One of my favorite verses about hope is Romans 15:13. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." What a wonderful description of our God! "The God of hope." And if that isn't enough reason to be encouraged, the verse goes on to provide the assurance that He will fill His children with all joy and peace so that we may abou

Third Time's A Charm?
A couple of weeks ago, I found THE agent that I desperately want to represent my work. She appears to be both down to earth and brilliant, and she has a mission to help writers achieve their publishing dreams. I believe she would be an incredible partner that would help me grow. In other words, this agent is exactly who I've been looking to represent me. So, all week long I've been working on my query letter to her. After asking my husband and my sister to read it through, I

To Everything There Is A Season
Every year by the time January 1st rolls around, I'm ready for Spring. Yet, no matter how much I hope the tulips will bloom early, they never seem to cooperate. Similarly, 2021 proved as stubborn as the darn tulips. After living in four states last year (yikes!) I never did get to the point of blooming where I was planted. Of course, I didn't live anywhere long enough to even begin taking root. What had started as a year of excitement and joy quickly dissolved into disappoint

Encouraging Email
I received this email from my editor a few days ago, but wanted to share, because it was like getting a shot of Vitamin D! As a new author, I've been prone to question, second-guess, and doubt my ability. So receiving encouraging words from an industry professional has helped quell my concerns and worries. It's like a seal of approval that gives me the drive to keep my pen to the paper, moving forward. I don't know what's next on my journey, but for now, I will celebrate this
